Do you need a website if you use Practice Better, Healthie or SimplePractice?

Usually, yes. Your practice platform looks after clients once they've found you. A website is what helps them find you and decide you're right for them. They do different jobs, and they work well together.

What your practice platform is for

Tools such as Practice Better, Healthie and SimplePractice are built for working with clients: booking, intake forms, notes, messaging and billing. Client information belongs there, under whatever agreement that company offers you.

Some offer a public booking page or profile. That's useful, but it's a page in their system, built around their layout.

What a website does that they don't

It explains you. A booking page shows times. A website explains who you help, how you work and why someone should trust you.

It can be found. A site built around what your clients search for can appear on Google and in AI answers. It's also where a doctor looks before sending someone to you.

It's yours. If you change platforms, your booking link changes, but your website and domain stay the same.

It speaks to different readers. Clients, parents, referring doctors and employers all need different words.

How they fit together

  1. Someone finds your website through Google, a doctor or Instagram.
  2. They read about you and decide you're the right fit.
  3. They click Book.
  4. Your platform takes over: booking, forms and care.

Your website handles everything before the first appointment, and your platform handles everything after it.

What not to do

Don't collect health details on your website. Keep contact forms simple, and send intake to your secure platform.

Don't build your whole business on a profile page. If the company changes its rules, or you leave, you lose your address online.

When you can skip a website, for now

If your practice is full from referrals, and you don't want new kinds of clients, a website can wait. Even so, a simple page with your credentials and contact details helps people check that you're real.
